Autauga County, AL - One of Autauga County’s oldest communities is preparing for a new chapter as improvements at Old Kingston Park will enhance recreation while preserving the legacy of the county’s original seat of government. 

Autauga County Commission Chairman Jay Thompson said the project reflects the county’s commitment to preserving its heritage while enhancing quality of life for current and future residents.“Old Kingston is an important part of Autauga County’shistory, and we are proud to continue investing in this community,” Thompson said. “These improvements are about more than enhancing a park. They are about creating a place where families can spend time together, children can play and neighbors can connect. By pursuing opportunities like this, we can bring additional resources into Autauga County and invest in the quality of life ofour residents.”

Located at 1315 County Road 21 N., Old Kingston Park has served generations of local families as a place to gather, celebrate and enjoy the outdoors. Now, thanks to a $335,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), the park is receiving a series of upgrades designed to make it more accessible and inviting for residents of all ages.

Following a competitive bidding process, bids were opened March 3, 2026, and the commission awarded the project March 17 to Tri-County Construction LLC, the lowest responsible bidder, for $335,000. When complete, the project will include a new prefabricated restroom facility with utility connections, a half-mile, 8-foot-wide asphalt walking trail, a new pathway connecting the playground and pavilion, resurfaced and restriped parking and basketball courts with updated Americans with Disabilities Act signage, four UV-protective sunshades, additional benches,fresh mulch and new landscaping.

County Administrator Scott Kramer said the county expects construction to be completed by the end of the year.

For local residents, the improvements represent more than new amenities. They are another investment in a community that has played asignificant role in Autauga County’s history.
