The Alabama Farm-City Committee is encouraging kindergarten-12th grade teachers to share on social media how they’re incorporating the Farm-City theme into lesson plans Nov. 15-19.

This year’s topic is “Down To Earth: Agriculture Sustains Alabama.” Farm-City Week is held the week leading up to Thanksgiving and celebrates the connection between rural and urban dwellers.

Teachers who share project photos on Facebook and Instagram using #ALFarmCity21 will be entered to win prizes in two divisions. Three winners in the kindergarten to sixth-grade division will earn a pizza and ice cream party, plus a $50 gift card for classroom supplies. Three winning classrooms of seventh- through 12th-graders will score Farm-City T-shirts, plus a $50 gift card for classroom materials.

“Alabama is home to diligent stewards of the land,” said Jeff Helms, Alabama Farm-City Committee chairman. “These farmers and forest landowners are using cutting-edge, sustainable techniques and technology to conserve our land, water and air. It’s important to teach our students about the tactics farmers use to sustain Alabama.”

The Down To Earth theme centers on six subtopics: animal and plant efficiency; data and technology; conserving natural resources; smart land use; carbon; and sustaining for the future.
