Autauga County Celebrates Opening of Liberty Fields at Pine Level Park

On Monday, March 30, 2026 at 5 PM, the Autauga County Commissionjoined Director Kenneth Boswell, state and local elected officials, andcommunity partners to celebrate the grand opening of Liberty Fields at PineLevel Park—marking a major milestone in community development and honoring the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

Held in partnership with the Prattville Area Chamber ofCommerce, the ribbon-cutting highlighted the park as a long-anticipatedinvestment designed to enhance quality of life in one of the county’s fastest-growing areas.

Commission Chairman Jay Thompson reflected on the meaning behind the park’s name, “Liberty is more than a word—it is a living idea. It lives in our communities, in our children, and in the moments when neighbors come together.”

The $2.08 million project was more than 15 years in themaking and was funded through a partnership that included $1,019,616 from Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, matched by $1,080,384 from theAutauga County Commission.

Mayor Zachary Bigley delivered the invocation, and thePrattville/Marbury JROTC presented the colors. Director Kenneth Boswell,speaking on behalf of Governor Kay Ivey, emphasized the park’s lasting impact, “Aswe approach our nation’s 250th birthday, how great it is to celebrate a placewhere our young people can grow, learn, and thrive.”

Representative Ivan "Van" Smith added that theproject reflects “vision, partnership, and a deep commitment to our youth andcommunity.”

Following the ceremony, Chairman Jay Thompson and Commissioner Bill Tatum threw out the first pitches on both fields, officially bringing the park to life as the first games of the season began and the fieldsfilled with energy, excitement, and community spirit.

As part of the America 250 initiative, Liberty Fields is also home to a newly planted Liberty Tree—a Princeton Elm expected to grow 60–70 feet tall—serving as a lasting symbol of the nation’s founding ideals.

Together, the park and the symbolic Liberty Tree represents the continued growth of Autauga County and a shared commitment to creating spaces where families can gather, play, and celebrate for generations to come.
