The Autauga County Commission formally recognized theessential role of public safety telecommunicators by presenting a resolution to Autuaga County 911 Director Becky Neugent, designating April 12–18, 2026, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Autauga County. This annual recognition honors the dedicated men and women who serve as the first point of contact during emergencies. While often unseen, telecommunicators are the critical link between the public and emergency responders—providing calm, clarity, and coordination in moments of crisis. Under the leadership of Director Neugent, Autauga County’s 911 team continues to demonstrate professionalism,resilience, and an unwavering commitment to service. These highly trainedindividuals manage multiple systems simultaneously, gather essential information from callers, and dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel with precision and urgency. “Before help arrives, there is a voice,” said Chairman Jay Thompson. “Our telecommunicators are the true first first responders. Their ability to remain steady under pressure and guide others through difficult moments is essential to the safety and well-being of ourcommunity.” Director Neugent also reflected on theimportance of the role and the dedication of her team, “After 30 years in 911, I can tell you—it’s not always easy, but knowing you made a difference on someone’s worst day makes it worth it.” The Commission expressed its deep appreciation for the long hours, emotional demands, and behind-the-scenes dedication required of telecommunicators. Their work often goes unnoticed by the public, yet it plays a crucial role in every emergency response. Resolution 2026-17 serves as a reminderof the important contributions made by these professionals and encourages all residents to recognize and thank the individuals who answer the call—day and night.
