AUTAUGA COUNTY, AL — Autauga County has been selected as one of 34 counties across Alabama to receive a Liberty Tree as part of the statewide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Led by the Alabama USA Semiquincentennial Commission, this initiative will place Liberty Trees in communities across the state to create a lasting, living tribute to America’s founding. Autauga County’s Liberty Tree will be planted at Liberty Fields at Pine Level Park, where it will serve as a meaningful symbol within one of the county’s newest community gathering spaces. The planting will be recognized during the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Monday, March 30 at 5:00PM, immediately before the first game is played on the new fields. Each participating county receives a 6- to 8-foot Princeton Elm tree along with a commemorative bronze plaque. Over time, the tree will grow to approximately 70 feet tall and wide, standing as a long-term symbol offreedom, unity, and community. The Liberty Tree holds deep historical significance. In the years leading up to the American Revolution, colonists gathered beneath a prominent elm tree in Boston to organize and protest British rule. When that original tree was cut down in 1775, communities across the colonies established new Liberty Trees—ensuring the symbol of liberty and unity would endure. “Planting this Liberty Tree at Liberty Fields connects our past to our future in a powerful way,” said Chairman Jay Thompson, Autauga County Commission. “It represents not only where we’ve been, but theopportunities ahead for generations to come. It will stand as a symbol of community, legacy, and freedom—growing alongside the families and memories being made right here in Autauga County.”
