Owens Corning to Open State-of-the-Art Shingle Manufacturing Facility in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama

Autauga County, Prattville, Alabama- GovernorKay Ivey today announced that Owens Corning,a building products leader, is making a significant investment toconstruct a new shingle manufacturing facility in Prattville, providing amassive economic boost to Autauga County. 

The facility is expected to create nearly 100 skilledmanufacturing jobs, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce.

The new plant will operate a four-widelaminator capable of producing approximately 6 million squares oflaminate shingles per year, bolstering Owens Corning’s production capacity forits high-performing roofing products. The facility will incorporate advancedautomation and leading-edge technology. 

“Owens Corning is a name known around the world, and I’mproud that this iconic company is planting roots in Prattville,” GovernorIvey said. “This major investment shows great confidence in Alabama’sworkforce and in our state’s ability to support world-classmanufacturing. With nearly 100 high-quality jobs on the way, this projectis a big win for Autauga County and for all of Alabama,” she added.

Owens Corning recently ranked on the Fortune 500 listfor the 71st consecutive year. The Toledo, Ohio-based companyoperates 150 facilities worldwide, with 17 asphalt roofing and componentsmanufacturing facilities in the U.S. following the completion of the Prattvilleplant.

Support system

Owens Corning announced plans for a new Southeastern U.S. plant inFebruary 2025, saying the strategic investment will expand the company’sroofing manufacturing network, enhancing its ability to meet the strong demandfor its shingles.

State and local economic development officials collaboratedclosely with Owens Corning to make the project a reality, reflecting Alabama’songoing effort to attract long-term investment to both rural and urbancommunities. The project is supported by a $4.9 million investment fromthe Growing Alabama program, which is accelerating improvements at the site inPrattville’s South Industrial Park. In addition, AIDT, Alabama’s primary workforce development agency,will provide services valued at $885,000.

“This project demonstrates Alabama’s growing reputation as ahub for advanced manufacturing,” said Ellen McNair, Secretary of theAlabama Department of Commerce. “Owens Corning’s decision to bring thisinnovative facility to Prattville reflects our state’s strong business climateand our commitment to supporting forward-looking companies with theinfrastructure and workforce they need to succeed.”

Construction is expected to begin in the near future, withproduction beginning in Prattville in 2027.

Local impact

Local officials cheered Owens Corning’s investment plans inPrattville.

Mayor Bill Gillespie Jr. thanked the company directly forselecting his city for its growth project.
